Environmental advocate calls out ALDOT, feds over new deal for flooded Shiloh residents

WDHN) — One of the most prominent voices for the Shiloh community is saying a new deal from the federal government misses the mark and doesn’t help the flooding-prone area fast enough or help with the years of devastation.

Dr. Robert Bullard, who has been the leader in getting the Shiloh community federal help to solve their flooding nightmare, said the agreement between the Federal Highway Administration and the state Department of Transportation to mitigate flooding as a result of the Title Six Civil Rights complaint is a good start, but it lacks responsibility and acknowledgment.

He said the State Department jumped to look forward to making improvements.

“The essence of this agreement, even though it’s not written or expressed, is that something is wrong with the highway,” Dr. Bullard said. “If you’re an alcoholic, to get sober or cured, you have to admit you’re an alcoholic, and in this case, they didn’t admit the flooding is caused by the highway.”
