SAN FRANCISCO – On Tuesday July 29, the Sierra Club announced in a press release it had created a new national Environmental Justice Award that bears my name. The new award will be given annually to an individual or group that has done outstanding work in the area of environmental justice. The first Robert Bullard Environmental Justice Award will be presented Nov. 21 along with the Sierra Club’s other 2014 awards. “The Sierra Club has long recognized the rightness and necessity of environmental justice work, and we couldn’t be more proud of having Dr. Bullard’s name on our new award honoring those who have followed in his footsteps,” said Sierra Club President David Scott. Just last year, the Sierra Club gave me the John Muir Award, its highest award that recognizes individuals with a distinguished record of achievement in national or international conservation causes.
