Three-Day EPA Environmental Justice Training Workshop Kicks Off in Houston on August 6

HOUSTON – Beginning this Wednesday August 6 the EPA Region 6 will conduct a three-day Environmental Justice Training Workshop in Houston for environmental justice community leaders in the Houston Metro region. The event kicks off with at “toxic tour” of Houston via bus beginning at 1pm. The EPA workshop is co-sponsored by Houston-based Texas Environmental Justice Advocacy Service (T.E.J.A.S.) and the Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs at Texas Southern University. The goals of the  Training Workshop is to: Bring together grassroots organizations and partners, local officials and government entities to better understand today’s Environmental Justice challenges; build sustainable relationships thru strategies exchanges, lessons learned and best practices that lead to healthier communities; broaden decision making skills via better understanding environmental processes and requirements; and participate in a collaborative process to draft a Region 6 EJ State Action Plan that addresses region-wide priorities. So far, EPA has held training workshops in Albuquerque and New Orleans. The workshop is free, but space is limited. Limited travel assistance may be available.
